SUN IN LIBRA/VISHAKHA : GATEWAY INTO THE SPIRITUAL

EYE ON THE SKY: SUN IN VISHAKHA (LIBRA 20-SCORPIO 3.20)

The Sun moved into a more positive section of Libra today and out of the deepest point of debilitation into a new constellation formed by the four stars in Libra known as the Northern Scales  This year, the Sun in Libra has not been very difficult   because Jupiter is in Libra and it has lightened the normal depression and low self-confidence that this time of year can bring.  The first section (Libra 20-23.20)  Nov 6-8th,  is ruled by Aries where the Sun is exalted in the D-9 chart where passion and instinct are likely to dominate. The Sun is finally guided toward strong confidence, and self-esteem and finds its power.

As Dennis Harness notes, the symbols associated with Vishakha are an archway and a potter’s wheel. The archway is a symbol of moving through thresholds of spiritual initiation. Jupiter is the ruling planet of this nakshatra, reflecting a deep connection with one’s soul purpose. The potter’s wheel symbolizes the patience that must be developed in order to progress on the spiritual path. The main deities are Radha, the divine consort of Sri Krishna and Indra / Agni. The shakti is “the power to achieve many and various fruits in life”.

The Sun in Vishakha straddles two worlds between the material and the spiritual.  It is channeling Jupiter’s energy in Swati nakshatra so bringing in more material energy.  People born with Sun in this constellation (Nov. 6-19) or having their rising sign or moon here may have a tendency toward financial difficulties depending on the rising sign where Jupiter is placed. They tend to be their own worst enemies. They have to watch their pride and make sure their ego does not get in the way.  They need to strive toward my spiritual development and not get caught in the sexual trap of Libra and the archway, symbolizing also the sexual lure of the vagina.   Sometimes they are good at putting on a strong jovial fronts on the outside but inside they may carry grudges.  They often become obsessive about negative feelings and thoughts and often cannot let go of them.

Still on the positive side, Vishakha individuals can be very devoted to causes and like to take up life’s challenges.  Still they cannot help getting caught up in complaining  but can get through their challenges through their own one-pointedness toward achievement.   Still people born under this constellation strive to do the right thing and sometimes can be a bit dogmatic about it.

Jupiter connects to the constellation through Indra whose preceptor is Brihaspati and supports INdra’s ambitions even if they become unwholesome.  Its natural grace and good fortune can bless this constellation with pompous extravagance pulling in the luxurious and comfort-seeking Venus.

In any case, the sky is a bit lighter now with this transit and Saturn is out of its worse area in the sky at 0-1 degrees and the moon is exalted in Taurus today so after a bad storm, there is some light dawning.

All gratitude to my Jyotish Gurus and to Komilla Sutton and Prash Trivedi for their insights into this constellation.
