PLANNING YOUR YEAR: KEY EVENTS BY RISING SIGN TO GET A HEAD START ON BEATING THE PLANETS

EYE ON THE SKY: YOUR YEARLY OVERVIEW IN A NUTSHELL PART 1

So the transits of the ascendant lord are the most important for gauging what issues will come up in your life and they are always contextual to the larger cycles or dashas that you are running.  Here is a quick guide by rising sign to key events this year that will impact you. For more details, see our Vedic Astrological Almanac and Transit Guide for 2018:

ARIES AND SCORPIO: Ruled by Mars:

Mars in Scorpio Jan. 16th-March 7th is really your best time for self-confidence and health and Aries are dealing with 8th house transit and while meditation will be supported, without using the energy to transform your deep issues it will be challenges. Mars in Sagittarius is conjunct Saturn and Mars in Capricorn this year from May 2-Nov...

INTENSITY WITH IMBALANCE OF SOLAR AND LUNAR ENERGIES: FIND A WAY TO STAY COOL AND CALM

EYE ON ASTROLOGY: KALA SARPA  YOGA IN TRANSIT Jan. 4-18th

Kala Sarpa/Amrita yoga is  when Rahu and Ketu contain all the planets between them inclusively in the zodiac but a single planet going out of the axis, negates it.   The 5th round of Kala Sarpa started Jan 4th and goes into Jan. 18th.  So  when ever the moon is between Cancer and Capricorn all the planets are hemmed in between Rahu in Cancer  and Ketu in Capricorn.   The yoga is broken when the moon goes into Aquarius and until it gets to Rahu in Cancer every two weeks.

Prash Trivedi thinks there  is a messy imbalance of solar and lunar energies that create either aggressiveness or passivity.  Given this week’s energy this occurrence seemed rather aggressive and intense and people I know with this configuration tend to b...

SUN INTO CAPRICORN: VEDIC HOLIDAY JAN. 14TH

Sun enters Capricorn:  MAKAR  SANKRANTI, JANUARY 14

Sun moves into Capricorn on Sunday, January 14th and it is a larger event than you might imagine. In the Vedic calendar it is the real beginning of the New Year where the days start lengthening and more light descends on the planet.   Even with the  Sun in Capricorn, an enemy’s sign, it is considered very auspicious for starting the new business year and in fact the financial outlook for a country is calculated for the planetary ingress here for the next year based on the Capital of that country.  It is often the start of the upward business cycles into July as the waxing Sun and longer days on the year are a better time to start businesses as there is more solar energy.  (See our Business astrological services: http://www...

MERCURY MOVING TOWARD SATURN INTO JAN. 12TH

EYE ON THE SKY: MERCURY CONJUNCT SATURN

Mercury is in Sagittarius  moving toward conjunction with Saturn into Jan. 12th.  For   Mercury, poor judgment is a problem for Wednesday being ruled by Mercury so you have to be careful about decision making particularly if you are Gemini or Virgo rising.

Mercury  is in the Mula nakshatra (Sagittarius 0-13.20) until Jan. 16th where the haunting from the past beckon us to let go of difficult karma and be patient.

Prash Trivedi notes that Mula consists of nine stars at the end of Scorpio and is the place of the center of the galaxy which Western Astrologers are fond of calling the Galactic Center as that wonderful part of the sky that looks like a white river in the night sky...

VENUS CAZIMI TODAY: THE ODD CASE OF THE BLESSING OF THE SUN

EYE ON ASTROLOGY: VENUS CONJUNCT THE SUN

I learn a lot from my Western astrological friends. While combustion is one of the most damaging things for a planet in Vedic astrology,   it turns out total combustion within the last degree is a blessing.  Venus will be conjunct the Sun in the Eastern US on Monday, Jan. 8th at 11:02 pm  EDT.

The exact conjunction of the Sun with Venus on January 8th  can be a really good thing and is  called cazimi and comes from medieval astrology and it used to refer to planets that are so close to a conjunction with the Sun that they are “in the heart” of the Sun. They actually become energized by the Sun and their most positive qualities come out. This will be a positive for Monday, January 8th  when Venus is within 40 minutes of the Sun...

UNDERSTANDING PLANETARY COMBUSTION AND PLANETS TOO CLOSE TO THE SUN PART 1

UNDERSTANDING PLANETARY COMBUSTION:
PLANETS TOO CLOSE TO THE SUN

With Venus too close to the Sun now until Feb. 19th, clients are asking about what it means so I have written this article.

At various times of the year, planets in the sky may fall behind the Sun and may not be visible due to the blinding energies of the Sun. This is called combustion or not visible in the sky. This is one of the more difficult events in Vedic astrology particularly when this happens within 2-3 degrees as the significations of the planet are destroyed and the darker energies of the combust planet may arise. If you are born with planetary combustion then when it happens in transit, it is particularly activated...

SECRETS OF THE 7TH HOUSE: KNOW THYSELF AND FIND THE DIVINE IN YOUR PARTNER

SECRETS OF THE 7TH HOUSE:  KNOW THYSELF AND FIND THE DIVINE IN YOUR PARTNER

With Jupiter in Libra, it’s a good year to master relationships and work through difficult issues.  The 7th house is not always about marriage but also business parnerships and committed romantic relationships. When the love is deep enough, marriage often moves to the 12th house of sacrifice where we give up our personal needs in deep love to create a family.

The 7th house is about learning compromise where two people come together to create something better than each does not have.  My dear friend often noted that a good business partnership is like 2 + 2 not just adding up to 4 but creating a 7.  Its like sine wave amplification where two small waves create something bigger...

KETU IN CAPRICORN/CONSTELLATION OF SHRAVANA DEC 2, 2017-SEPT 24, 2018

EYE ON THE SKY: KETU IN SHRAVANA: SPIRITUAL AWAKENING AND MATERIAL CONFLICTS

In the true node system, Ketu went into the Shravana (Capricorn 10-23.20) on Dec. 2nd, 2017 and stays there until Sept. 24th.  Modern astronomers say this constellation consists of 3 stars,  Altair, Alshain and Tarazed and mythologically correspond to the three steps taken by Vishnu.  Prash Trivedi notes that the  translation of Shravana  is “hearing”  or ” the one who limps.” It is sometimes connected to the Pipal tree and the sacred tree where Buddha received enlightenment. This constellation is often connected to a trident or an ear and its symbol is to listen and if planets are strong in this constellation it means that one has to learn to be a good listener or to listen to one’s inner voice.

RAHU IN PUSHYA NAKSHATRA (CANCER 3.20-16.40) APRIL 29-DEC. 7, 2018

EYE ON THE SKY: RAHU IN PUSHYA APRIL 29-DEC 7, 2018

Pushya is one of the most auspicious constellation in the zodiac being connected to the chief deity, Brahaspati, the high priest of the gods. It turns out that most planets except Saturn are uplifted by transits through Pushya because the energy of the deity Brihaspati, priest of the Gods. Jupiter brings out  benevolence, generosity, compassion and joyfulness and optimism are generated through this constellation. Its a funny case like Mrigashira where the qualities are that of Jupiter and not Saturn and which is like the constellation of  Mrigashira which brings out the deity Soma and the Moon more so than the harsh energy of Mars.   Rahu moves into Pushya April 26th in the mean node system and April 29th in the True node system.

MERCURY IN TRANSITION: SCORPIO TO SAGITTARIUS JAN 4-9TH

EYE ON THE SKY: MERCURY IN THE GANDANTA SCORPIO 27-SAGITTARIUS 3

Mercury is preparing to leave Scorpio the next few days after being there since Dec. 10th and it also was there Nov. 1-Nov. 24th.  For Geminis and Virgos, this has been difficult with a lot of deep emotional and mental churning and it is climaxing in a few days. The end of Scorpio, 27-30 degrees is called the stinger’s tail and is  the gandanta which literally means drowning. Mercury will transit through this area Jan. 4-6 and this could bring out deep karmic patterns and intense emotions up to heal.    Find the strength to heal and use this time wisely to go deep into the depth of the ocean and find the nectar. Gemini and Virgo rising will feel this energy most intensely but also those running a Mercury dasha or bhukti...
