FOCUS ON SATURN–FINDING ITS BRIGHT SIDE IN A TROUBLED TIME

Saturn:   Finding Its Bright Side in a Troubled Time

Certainly Saturn has a lot to do with the precarious state that our world is in but particularly because of the Pluto affliction.  Its heavy aspects on Pisces, the natural 12th sign of the zodiac has us worrying about hospital capacity. Its aspect on Cancer the natural 4th sign of the zodiac have us cowering in lockdown in our homes and worried about our lungs an heart which are the realm of the Cancer and the 4th house. Its aspect on Libra the 7th sign of the zodiac has us involved in social distancing in relationship and has tanked fun and the entertainment industry with the closings of movie theaters and Disneyland.  Is he teaching us something now?

The essence of Saturn is that he is lord of time and he creates delays and obstructions to move us into the present moment.  Can we enjoy the present and smell the roses playing with our kids and dogs or are we forever impatient with frustration and desire?     Saturn plays and delays us to remind us what is really important.  We have to learn this during this time of crisis or cower in fear.

Saturn thrives through hard work, responsibility, meditation and caution.  It is the tortoise in which slow and steady wins the race and it cultivates patience so that we slow down and enjoy the slow steady ride. It thrives on meditation, introspection and the quest for enlightenment.  He helps is us move toward unobtainable perfection in a cautious way and reminds us to be cautious. Saturn is a “No” person vs. Jupiter the “Yes” person. He thrives on rules and boundaries  and inhibits expansion.  Sometimes this is necessary.

The dark side of Saturn when afflicted is self-flagellation, creating low self-esteem to beat us into shape. He is the bad high school gym coach that makes us run the extra mile and work hard and sweat in order to win the championship and the medal.   When weak, Saturn can create depression, loneliness and frustration.

Saturn represents the common worker and is humble and he governs construction and is down to earth and delights and building and creating infrastructure and manifesting the material world.  He delights in the earth, in getting back to nature and leaving city life and enjoys farming, the land  and shunning the complexity of city life and the world. Saturn requires us to honor him being real and practical and humble and it requires integrity.  We need to do our own work and not hide or rely on others.

Saturn wants to be real and authentic in relationship. He requires no nonsense and will take no prisons.  The truth is important here and getting to the facts. He requires logical talk and precise language not the wild dreamy speculations of Pisces.

Saturn has a very spiritual side and love retreats, meditation, yoga and solitude. He delights in transcending the senses which is the ultimate reality of death which he also lords over.  Karmically,  Saturn in our chart asks if we are willing to face the difficulties of our past karma with grace and cancel our material karma and move toward spirituality.   Our planet is going through a huge trial now and Saturn is giving us a chance to look at the way we run our world and decide if it needs to be reorganized.  Years of financial abuse by our goverrnment and spending money on military adventurism while not taking care of our infrastructure are going to come up for deep examination during Saturn’s stay in Capricorn.

Saturn connection to Capricorn, the natural 10th sign of the zodiac makes it materially ambitious  and succeeds when it shoulders its responsibilities and preserves through difficulties.  Saturn requires us to lift out of the material into the spiritual and to commit to the world and uplift society. If we get too caught up in material achievement, we can drown in its excesses and accumulate too much stress.  Saturn challenges us to work hard without complaining and realized that hard work and responsibility are part of a mature life.

We will get through this crisis but with Saturn it may be a longer and more difficult process than we now imagine.  No astrologer can predict the future with 100% accuracy and say when it will end.  It will take our collective free well making bold new choices with compassion and avoiding recklessness to change our world and it is just beginning.
