Once in a while, we get what Western Astrologers call a mutual reception or exchange of signs and in Vedic astrology, it is known as a Parivartana Yoga (abbreviated PVY). It can be very powerful and it allows a connection and association between the houses involved and is often stronger than a planetary aspect. In this case, until Oct. 24th-Nov. 16th, Mercury is in Venus’ sign of Libra and Venus in Mercury’s sign of Virgo. This may also help cancel out the debilitation of Venus as it like Mercury is in Virgo which would have a cancellation impact.

If you have this in your natal chart, it can be read as conjunction. In this case, they are friends and Western astrologers would say that the exchange may bring out stronger dignity although Vedic astrologers will focus more on what houses are being exchanged.

Mercury in Libra is afflicted by Saturn now in transit but it is a wide aspect so its not too difficult and some of  positive qualities of Mercury in Libra can come out including fun-loving, love of philosophy, musical and artistic interests, and humanitarian energies are enlivened.   Still some the darker qualities may come out like not finishing work, kidney problems and lightheadedness and not being serious in love.   Mercury stays in Libra until Nov. 27th and will benefit Virgos and Geminis most with 2nd and 5th house transits from the ascendant bringing love of family for Virgos and artistic expression, romance, and theatrical expression for Virgos.

It is thought that an exchange of signs should be read as conjunction and because Venus is debilitated, the darker side of the Venus debilitation will be muted  and the more positive qualities will come out for Venus in Virgo which may bring more desire for service, gains in relationship, interest in religious art, being more unassuming and humble.    Still for Libra and Taurus, this is a time where it has to work  work 3 times as hard to produce good results but they can do it!

In Vedic astrology, the houses exchanged have the most impact and enliven a connection between them. Hence Sagittarius rising will do best with this exchange between their 10th and 11th house and this will support gains at work, the fulfillment of desires, and achievement at work, and successful investment with the aspect onto the 5th house. This would be really true if you have this in your natal chart but I find these exchanges are powerful in transit.

For Virgo rising, it is a positive exchange of 1st and 2nd houses creating a Dhana yoga supporting gains from family, articulate speech, skill in managing money and assets, and the family business. Some of this is taken down by the debilitated Venus but with extra hard, work it can manifest.

For Scorpio rising, the exchange is between the 11th and 12th house and is a Dainya Yoga which can create unrest in group activities and financial matters, risk of debt, expenses from foreign exports, or duties. Income may be eaten up by matching expenditures so save extra money and stay frugal.

Capricorn rising also does better with this exchange between the 9th and 10th houses and this supports career, higher education, ethics, and religious and philosophical studies.

We cannot take the time to go through all the combinations but in general combine, the houses involve and if they are positive house combinations like 1,4,7,10,5,9,2,11 then the exchange is positive, but if they combine with house 3,6,8 or 12, then the exchange is more difficult.

What we say about Venus in Virgo if you have it in your natal chart afflicted and what are some of the general problems with it?  Venus transits into Virgo on Oct. 23rd and it is a time for her to rest and meditate for Libra and Taurus rising. Technically, it is debilitated here but that just means that it has to work three times as hard to get results. With the exchange of houses with Mercury, the debilitation is partially lifted. It is a particularly difficult time for relationships as Venus tends to be too critical and picky in Virgo and this can lead to picking poor partners, being a victim in relationships, broken romances, problems with reproductive organs, and bladder problems, and sugar imbalances.

Venus in Virgo can bring out the “lusty” energy of Venus rather than the higher energies of artistic expression. If you give in to this energy, you may find your creative juices drained further and this can be a challenge for artists or designers or professional dancers and singers who count on Venus. Moderation is always the key with Venus in Virgo.

Relationship skills really will need a deep tweaking. The key will be to accept your partner in his/her imperfections and to avoid being too critical about things that bother you. A relationship is always about compromise and acceptance. Trying to change your partner usually does not work but use your skills to communicate your needs in a non-aggressive manner and find a way to compromise and you will get through.

Venus governs business expansion and the desire to buy and in Virgo, these energies may be lessened. I often find the stock market will fall when Venus is in Virgo or that sales may drop so you have to work three times as hard with your creative marketing efforts during this time. Venus governs peace and diplomacy and given the fragile state of the world with the US and China, this is a troubling transit for expecting success in negotiations.

The lion pose is connected to Venus and the second chakra of creativity and pro-creativity so you can do that pose if your creative juices seem at a low point.

Taurus and Libra Rising Sign people running Venus periods will have the most problems with this transit while Virgos and Capricorns may do best with it. Libra rising, in particular, will need to rest more, conserve energy, take more time for meditation and go on spiritual retreats in order to balance out the yearly imbalance.
