The week starts out with the full moon/lunar eclipse in the sign of Cancer tonight running about 8:30 pm-1:50 am Central Standard Time.  We have written about this extensively earlier in the week. Eclipses are good for meditation and that is the best way to spend time during an eclipse, as the meditations can be deeper. Outwardly the emotions and mind get a bit frazzled so never a good time to make major decisions during an eclipse. I usually do laundry, clean, or meditate to pass the time.

Both of my Gurus have advocated meditation during eclipses over the years. One  recently commented on this one: “The mind is connected with the moon, the body is connected with the Earth and the Sun is connected with both. The time when all three planet come in alignment is good for spiritual practices. It is not a good time to eat or indulge in pleasures. It is a good time to conserve energy. So, from the ancient times it is said that you should not eat during the eclipse, and you should meditate. Eclipse is a very good time for mantra chanting and meditation.

Sun moves into an auspicious place in the sky this week.  There is a hidden constellation in the zodiac called Abhijit (located at 6.40-11.13 Capricorn) which is considered one of the most auspicious stars and is the mysterious 28th nakshatra of the zodiac. In the Western astronomical traditions, it is know as Vega and the Sun transits through there for 5 days Jan. 20-25th.

Komilla Sutton notes that Abhijit means victorious and conquering completely and is connected to Brahma, the creator and also to Vishnu the preserver. It is a star where the individual can write their own destiny.  One can preserve the old and create something new.  This constellation is very powerful and gives one spiritual drive and the ability to want to win regardless of circumstances.  It is ruled by the Sun and it supports leadership during its transit in the  constellation Jan 20th in the afternoon until January 25th.

Barack Obama had his Jupiter in this auspicious constellation 7.32 degrees Capricorn and became President during his Jupiter period and if you did not know much Vedic astrology you might look at Obama’s chart and think that he has a debilitated Jupiter and will not amount to much but that was not the case.

Mars is exalted in the D-9 Chart/Capricorn navamha  Jan. 22-26th providing extra energy and power to get things done.  The trine from Jupiter peaks into Friday, January 25th but will most be felt on Tuesdays and Thursdays this week with the exchange of signs between Pisces and Scorpios which particularly powerful for water signs as the exchange is between combinations of the 1st, 5th and 9th houses for those signs.  Great courage and a sense of gusto and adventure and joy and action will result making sporting events and competition this week particularly powerful. Good week for spiritual advancement for water signs.

Mercury moves into Capricorn on Jan. 20th –Feb 15th and it is a mixed transit for Geminis and Virgos for the start as Mercury is moving toward conjunction with Ketu within 3 degrees Jan. 21-24th.   Mercury the trickster will have its own major opponent with Ketu, another trickster that diffuses and scatters energies and creates challenges on the material plane to point us toward the Divine.

Mercury, a benefic, will uplift the disturbing eclipse energies but the affliction to itself will disturb communication and probably create a new hornet’s nest around the media. Chances are a scandal involving the media will erupt as fake news may finally be proven  to really be fake news. This energy will continue as Mercury moves toward conjunction with Neptune into February 19th  in Aquarius and this will unveil the illusion of the media and their quest for ratings and sensationalism rather than the truth.

Watch personal communications this week and Mercury will be opposed to the eclipse point on Jan. 24th trigger so major communication issue particularly if you are Virgo or Gemini rising.

Mars moved into the constellation of Revati  on Jan 17th and stays there until Feb. 5th.  Revati is one of the most satvic and pure constellations of the zodiac and fosters deep spiritual learning and development.  Western astronomers call the constellation zeta-Piscium (Pisces 16.40-30.00) which consists of around 27 faint stars  forming the tail of the fish in the constellation of Pisces .   In Vedic astrology this constellation is know as Revati meaning wealthy or transcendental.  Given the connection to the 12th sign of the zodiac connected to moksha or liberation the two meanings remind us that spiritual practice is our real wealth or the wealth that never dies.

Pushan is the deity of this constellation and is connected to purity, goodness, devotion, guidance and gentility.  Pushan as the deity of marriage ceremony connected to this ideal constellation becomes the mentor and symbol for ideal relationships that foster future generations and keep the seed of future life abundant and full with pure values.  With Jupiter, the dispositor of Pisces strong in Scorpio and aspecting Mars, it will create a very lucky week for Scorpio and Pisces rising and a chance for deep spiritual progress and religious activity.

Venus is conjunct Jupiter into January 22nd and while Venus exalts in Pisces and everyone loves Jupiter, this combination and increase overspending and excessive sexual or sensual activity in Pisces so watch that extra piece of cheesecake and keep your credit cards at home if you get dragged to the mall. Scorpios and Taurus rising will be impacted by it the most.

So despite the intensity of the Full Lunar Eclipse, this week offers deep spiritual growth and expansion and a lot of powerful energy. Have a great week!

What fellow astrologers are saying about last year’s edition:

“This almanac is truly a masterpiece and labor of love. Barry is a gifted astrologer and writer. I have written yearly forecasts for over 30 years and understand the work, knowledge and dedication involved. It is so complete with everything a beginner or advanced student of astrology would need. The references to the planet’s transit through the signs, nakshatras, aspects, dates and times, plus their interpretations is fantastic. He even covers the effects these will have on individual countries. I am sure I will be referring to this manual frequently throughout the year.”
Joni Patry, author and Vedic Astrologer
