Mars moves into Gemini on March 12th  and will and will stay there for about two months.   Mars in Gemini is in an enemy’s sign when verbal fighting can break out so push that need to debate and go right to a Toastmaster’s meeting.  It impacts Virgo, Sagitarrius, and Capricorn the most with its aspects.

Mars will be in the 3rd pada (LIbra) of Mrigashira or Orion (Gemini 0-3.20) during its first entry into Gemini and this combination will bring up passion or arguments in relationships so remember to let go of ego and being right to make it work.

The constellation of Orion is always a coexistence of opposites as the deer symbol brings out the timid, light, and fragile wandering qualities of this constellation which seem opposed to the warrior nature of Mars. But in this sense, the greatest spiritual warrior heroes of the Ramayana and Gita, Hanuman and Arjuna, embody the constellation’s deep quest for liberation and getting to the truth of the matter. If your Sun, Moon or rising sign is in this constellation, it gives you a deep yearning for something greater in your life.  The deity of the constellation is Soma, connected to the Moon and the life and vital subtle forces that are created to manifest the physiological components of enlightenment.

For now, enjoy the quest for Truth and something higher in this very pure constellation and my favorite of all, Orion, the spiritual warrior.

Mars transits into the constellation of Ardra which is located at Gemini 6.20-20.00 on March 27-April 21st and Western astronomers connect it with the constellation of Betelgeuse in the constellation of Orion, and Sirius, the Dogstar.

Ardra is one of the more difficult constellations in the zodiac that creates clarity and emotional cleansing that occurs after the storms of the soul recede.  Mars here can be rather destructive but then can reach into the turmoil with courage and wisdom to weather the storms of change if it does not get caught up in ambition, manipulation, and fear.  If it fails self-destruction can reign and create turmoil.

Mars in Rahu’s constellation channels the energy of Rahu in Aries in Ashwini Nakshatra bringing in more Mars and Ketu energy which can lead to more accidents and rage and rioting if you are not focused and not finding a way to channel the energy.    The key to this transit, if you are ruled by Scorpio or Aries, is to tone down being feverish and acting too rashly.  Saturn aspecting Rahu from Aquarius to Aries will bring out the darker side. So continue to slow down and do not let the reckless energy of Mars/Rahu create accidents, fights, or intense anger that leads to an explosive situation.  Cool things down with cold showers trips to the pool, coconut water, milk, and rose petal jam which all calm the fire element.   Cut down on intense exercise and competition that might increase the fire energy and lead to confrontation and fighting.  Go for a swim in the pool instead and with summer here, that is a natural thing to do.

The primary symbols for Ardra are a human head, representing thinking, and a teardrop, which represents overcoming suffering.  It is an excellent rising nakshatra because it reflects the brilliant mental abilities of Einstein. Rudra, the lord of the storms,  will probably kick off tornado season with a bang also so listen to the radio more if you live in tornado or hurricane areas.

Ardra creates emotional storms of short duration if we get stuck in the past and its purpose is to shake us out of our rigidity and to change our life to create a better future. It has the Uranus quality.  The storms wash away the dirt and leave us clearer and brighter and shiner and so they have a positive purpose. It ultimately seeks to dismantle whatever level of Maya or illusion we are stuck in.  Ardra can scatter mental energies and create confusion the key will be to find the courage to tackle the challenges and come out to the other end of the car wash–squeaky clean.

If you are running a Rahu/Mars or Mars/Rahu period, this transit may impact you most and Scorpio rising with the 8th house transit through Gemini has to find the tools of transformation to get through the storms.  The transit is easier for Aries rising but it still has to dig deep and find its courage to move forward.

Once in a while, we get what Western Astrologers call a mutual reception or exchange of signs and in Vedic astrology, it is known as a Parivatana Yoga (abbreviated PVY).  It can be very powerful and it allows a connection and association between the houses involved and is often stronger than a planetary aspect. When Mercury goes into Aries on March 31st it will stay there until June 7th because it will go retrograde and this will give us a very long association in transit.

What does it mean?  Mars and Mercury are the most bitter enemies. At best it may create quick-witted speaking, strength in technical and mechanical, and medical work, and being quick to solve problems.  I often find in finance it may lead to deals and corporate takeovers. Mercury is afflicted in Aries as it will be conjunct Rahu on April 7th but will stay in Aries a long time as it goes retrograde on April 21-May 14th.   Saturn is also throwing a 60-degree sextile aspect to it into April 8th and this is going to create a mess around communications and infrastructure so make sure your systems are backed up.

The dark side of Mars/Mercury associations is that it creates angry moods, slow deliberate thinking, strong achievement and ambition, aggressive confrontations and arguments, self-centeredness, and ruthlessness around achieving one’s goals.  Also, you have to be very careful to not get into heated arguments while driving as this can lead to reckless behavior and potential accidents. I often find that accidents are a pinnacle of rage that bubbles up in arguments.  So, if this happens, pullover, over and fight it out– but not while driving.  Virgo rising, Capricorn rising and Cancer rising may need to be most careful here particularly if you have a Mars/Mercury association in your natal chart.

The rules for Parivatana Yogsas involve the houses, which are impacted and that depends on your rising sign and the houses connected to Aries and Gemini. One wants a positive exchange between good houses like 1,2, 4,5,7,9, and 11 and not getting 3,6,8, or 12 involved.

That means the following rising signs benefit most:  Geminis with gains of income and good energy from groups and friends because of the exchange between 11 and 1.

Leo rises because of the exchange between 9 and 11 bringing gains from their father, Guru, foreign country, and travels.

Libra rising because of the exchange between 7 and 9 bringing luck with relationships or partnerships or partners in foreign lands.

Sagittarius rising because the exchange between 5 and 7th bringing luck with partners, children, and investments.

Pisces Rising because of the exchange between the 2nd and 4th house bringing gains from real estate and property.

The other rising signs are more challenging because they involve the 3, 6, 8, and 12th houses and not going into detail but read Alan Annand’s book on Parivartana Yogas.  The good news is that the impact is only a week in transit.

If you are running a Mars/Mercury or Mercury/Mars period you will notice the impact greatly if you were born with this yoga, it will kick in during transit now.

Still, because Mars and Mercury are bitter enemies and it creates quarreling, even those receiving gains may have to fight for them and be left with a lot of anger.

Mars moves into Purnavasu (Gemini 20-Cancer 3.20) on April 21st and stays there until May 16th.   This will ease some tensions since it brings some Jupiter energy in and Jupiter also moves into Aries on April 21st this will ease some of the world tensions and conflicts but expect a lot of heated rhetoric amongst the superpowers and geopolitical cycles around Russia and Ukraine suggest something major may happen.  We are not thinking Taiwan/China tensions will pop until 2025.
